    On January 14, 2012 we lost one of our dear friends Godzilla. Godzilla was a lovebird that was about 17 years old.  The average life span for a Lovebird is 10 to 15 years, so this little guy was very old when it comes to lovebirds. Godzilla’s favorite past time was sitting with his human mom as she worked, watched TV or did her crafts. Godzilla will be missed, but we were blessed to have him in our life for so long.

In May 2011 we adopted Aloha and Kiwi, who are a couple of comical little Green Cheek Conure’s. These two little characters run the kitchen along with the parakeets. They love to greet everyone they see and when the dogs are barking, they always chime in.

    In September 2011 we added Banjo to our pack; he is part German Shorthair and part English Pointer. Banjo was found as a stray who had an inverted eye lid (eyelid was folded inward so his eye lashed and fur were rubbing against his eye all the time). Due to his condition the shelter said they would have to put him down because they could not afford the surgery on his eye and did not want him to suffer. So we decided to adopt this skinny big guy on Saturday. On Monday he had a vet appointment to get his eye taken care of and the dreaded neuter.

And we can’t leave out a little update on Daisy and Gretchen. The girls are almost 10, but they are doing great, no big medical issues, just a little arthritis. They allowed Banjo to come into their lives, but he must follow their rules.

So meet Benny & Joon, a couple of parakeets that were rescued from a shelter and now enjoying the company of a caring family…and checking in on Daisy and Gretchen of course.

And then there’s Godzilla.  A territorial love bird that just can’t get enough of Daisy and Gretchen’s antics.  Just check out this great picture of Godzilla reading the latest on D&G’s website!!  Even though she is named after a monster, she does have one great personality and apparently loves the camera.

Apparently they too have the need to watch the outside world through a pane of glass and inform all passersby of their presence.  It must be a dog thing.  Oh well, a little barking never hurts anyone; annoying perhaps, hurting no.  Check them out in Friends of D&G.
